POKOTABI / Monja Sakura
もんじゃ 桜
At Monja Sakura in Sumida Ward's Yahiro, guests can enjoy a wide variety of monjayaki from traditional recipes to mochi and stamina varieties, alongside okonomiyaki, foil-baked dishes, and pilaf.
01 / ABOUT THE PLACE
Gathering around a hot griddle and cooking batter to your own preferred doneness lies at the heart of the monjayaki experience. Located in Yahiro, Sumida Ward, Monja Sakura is an unpretentious downtown restaurant that serves a diverse selection of flour-based specialties and teppan dishes at accessible prices. Its monjayaki options range from garlic-and-meat stamina varieties to soft mochi or tuna and corn, allowing diners to season the mix with sauce and cook it until crisp and aromatic.
The griddle holds much more than just monja. Offerings include fluffy okonomiyaki such as tako-tama-ten with octopus, alongside savory plates like pork belly grilled with shishito peppers, sausages, and foil-wrapped dishes that trap the juices of their ingredients. Hearty carbohydrate options such as salt yakisoba, pilaf, and salt yaki-udon easily satisfy bigger appetites. Enjoying these sizzling dishes over draft beer or a highball turns any meal into an engaging gathering.
For dessert, shaved ice with milk ice cream and hotcakes can be enjoyed right at the table to finish the meal. The dining area offers both standard tables and tatami seating, with under-table storage space for belongings to help guests relax comfortably. Operating continuously from midday on Saturdays and Sundays, the restaurant caters well to daytime meals with family and friends as well as casual dinners.
